To really make a difference for customers, so that when we are asked, "What do you do?" we all feel proud to say we work in financial services.
Early on in my career I was lucky enough to work for some really passionate leaders who showed me the power of ideas and being your own person. I have also had the opportunity through my employment with different companies to see the value of diversity of culture, thinking and values. There is a rich source of inspiration when you work across diverse teams.
A couple of things stand out for me. First it would have to be the leadership teams that I have had the privilege to develop and lead. It's always great to see people grow and develop and possibly step into your shoes when you move on. I look back on some real times of extreme challenge - for example, during my time at Nomura our business was hit by a terrorist incident. My teams went well beyond anything you could expect to recover in our business. Adversity really does bring out the best in people.
I read Physics at university and have an on-going fascination with the deeper workings of the universe. I also learned to play the cello, double bass and bagpipes when I was much younger (sadly something long since forgotten). Sailing and skiing are my passions outside of work, and my family is very important to me. We love to travel off the beaten track, having previously spent time navigating the railways and rivers of South East Asia.
